Composite Prototyping Center
We’d like to thank Leonard Poveromo, Executive Director and Jim Karanik, Director of Training at the Composite Prototyping Center in Plainview for hosting our first meeting. In a nutshell their facility is one of a kind on Long Island. It houses state of the art equipment for the design, manufacture and processing of composite parts used in many industries. A unique aspect of the center is that they are publicly funded and they offer the use of their equipment to businesses both locally and globally. Of particular interest to our group is the STEM High School Program they offer. It is designed to give students an appreciation of composite design by offering a 15 hour/1 credit college course to high school students. Currently 3 districts are taking advantage of this program.
It was nice to see the 25 – 30 who attended.
